Hi I’m Hil (Hilary),
I’m very excited to be joining the Adapted Family after participating in their amazing Yoga Teacher Trainee Programme for 2020/2021. I have learnt so much with this course and can’t wait to share my knowledge in my own unique way. Adapted is such a lovely community and I’m so grateful to now be considered a part of the incredible teaching team. As I embark on my yoga teaching journey, I’m very much looking forward to all the wonderful experiences each day will bring.
When I was first exploring yoga, it was very much a choice for supporting my health and wellness – my why being to find peace within me. Despite my young age, I have experienced a variety of health battles. The main one being the discovery of Crohn’s Disease in my body just before my early 20’s. This in itself has been a journey with many ups and downs. However, I would not change a thing, because remarkably it has led me here – on this path to finding myself and connecting more with the power I hold within me to make space and be there for other people.
I was born and raised here in Christchurch and so I feel a very strong connection to this place many of us call home. My background is in Early Childhood Teaching and so I adore spending time supporting young children. I have worked in a variety of preschool spaces, particularly with infants & toddlers and I really enjoyed my time working with the older ages as well. With this in mind, do keep an eye out as I’m aspiring to create some more opportunities for children to do yoga together in the near future.
My yoga classes will reflect my personality and experiences. I’m soft natured but love a good laugh. I hope to inspire those around me to feel warm, comfortable and well supported. Things can change and it is natural for our minds and bodies to feel different some days. It is more than okay to show up on the mat simply as you are. However, in doing so, I believe it is so important to listen to and move with your body.
Some words that are speaking to me at the moment:
“After all, we are just walking each other home” – Ram Dass.
Thank you for taking the time to read about me. I look forward to meeting each of you and getting to know you more, particularly if my classes are your cup of tea.
